Three-Day Workshop for Practitioners on Climate Risk Analysis and Climate Change Adaptation to Industrial Parks in Telangana

01-03 May 2017, Hyderabad

Three day training program for practitioners were conducted in Leonia Holistic Destinations.  The training was attended by 22 officers from head office and zonal offices of TSIIC. The trainers were experts from Ifanos Concept and Planning, Buro happold, Germany and Green Infra Creations, STEP IIT Kharagpur, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

Dr. Dieter Brulez started the introduction to the training programme and Mr. E. V. Narasimham Reddy, VC & MD, TSIIC. VC & MD has advised all the participants to actively take part in the programme and implement the learnings from the training programme in planning and implementation of new and existing parks.

The first day of the training covered need for climate risk analysis and group activities covering how to carry out hazards, Risks, Resilience and Vulnerability Assessment. The first of the workshop was conducted by Dr. Florian Bemmerlein-Lux, Ifanos Concept and Planning and Kamal Kumar Murari from TISS. Second day of the programme covered the aspects of climate change adaptation measures. These measures were divided as per the impact and strategies. Group activities covered the aspects of adaptation measures for the case. This has been further supported by monitoring and evaluation of industrial parks on third day. The second day was conducted by Mr. Sebastian. Buro Happold and on third day Prof. Banerjee and Devottama from Green infra Creations led the training programme. 

The participants were divided into 4 groups and they names their group as Kakatiya, Paryavaran, innovate and Batukamma. The same group continued for all three days. The group activities included Climate Risk Analysis, identification of adaptation measures, prioritisation of measures based on severity and cost. Followed by selling their concepts to the investors.

Each day the participants were evaluated, the first day they were evaluated in terms of Multiple Choice Questions, second and third day, they were evaluated in terms of group work and individual contributions. Mr. Hrishikesh Mahadev, Technical Advisor coordinated the evaluation programme along with Dr. Florian Bemmerlein-Lux. The training programme had examination for the participants and on the final day certificates were distributed to all the participants with grades.

On the final day, feedback sessions were conducted and most of them have shown their satisfaction towards the training programme. They have also suggested to conduct similar programme covering cost-benefit analysis. Mr. A. Lakshmi Kanth Reddy, Chief Engineer, TSIIC distributed the certificates to all the participants.
